Driver workshops

The LSCP is constantly looking for news ways of educating drivers, riders and passengers in order to reduce casualties on London's roads. The Partnership currently runs a speed awareness scheme and a traffic light awareness scheme for motorists caught speeding or jumping red lights in London. These workshops give motorists the opportunity to attend an educational course rather than receive a fine and penalty points. The LSCP hopes these schemes will educate motorists about the dangers and consequences of speeding and red light jumping and lead to a change in attitudes and behaviours.

The speed awareness scheme and traffic light awareness scheme are part of a long term educational strategy by the LSCP.

Speed Awareness Scheme

The London Speed Awareness Scheme is offered to those drivers who have committed lower end speeding offences. This two and a half hour workshop looks at what caused the driver to exceed the speed limit, what the driver considered to be the benefits of doing so and the dangers associated with speeding. The workshop aims to motivate drivers to look at speed limits, the dangers of speeding and above all, to encourage drivers to travel within the speed limit at all times.

Only drivers who have incurred a speeding offence in the London area are eligible for the workshop. Those who attend will not receive a fine or points on their driving licence.

Traffic Light Awareness Scheme

The London Traffic Light Awareness Scheme launched in February 2008 and is one of only two schemes to operate in the country. The two and a half hour workshop aims to educate drivers about the dangers of ignoring traffic signals and the potential consequences. The scheme gives drivers the opportunity to assess their own driving and to give them the information they need to make the right choices about their future driving behaviour.

As with the Speed Awareness Scheme, only drivers who have incurred an offence within the London area are eligible for the workshop. Those who attend will not receive a fine or points on their driving licence.

The Speed Awareness Scheme and Traffic Light Awareness Scheme are delivered from specialist centres in Bromley, Ealing and Islington.
