Collision Course in the College Car Park
Young people from Orpington College were able to get close to the harsh reality of a road crash scene and its consequences when a collision reconstruction was recently held in the college's car park.
The activity involved a collision between a car and a scooter, where the car passenger received serious injuries, while other 'victims' were attended by the emergency services.
The reconstruction was an excellent example of community partnership working in action with Bromley Council's Road Safety Unit, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service, traffic police and London Safety Camera Partnership, among other local agencies, all contributing to a visually engaging exercise from which the young people attending clearly benefited.
Christine Fitzgerald, Road Safety Communications Manager at the London Safety Camera Partnership, said:
"This collision reconstruction clearly demonstrates the brutal consequences of driving at inappropriate speeds, among other road safety issues, for both passengers and drivers.
This initiative is one of many in which the London Safety Camera Partnership regularly works together with Road Safety Officers and emergency services across London to communicate vital road safety messages to vulnerable groups across the community in order to reduce casualties on the roads."
